Some of the best pizza is made in brick or other ovens that use real fire. This food stand offers wood fire pizza on a thin crust that is sold whole or by the slice.

Language Notes

Authentic: This means "real" or very much like the real thing. It is often used to talk about cuisines, as in "It is hard to find authentic Japanese food in this city." As for the Wood Fire Pizza stand, it is uncertain why the word is there. Pizza is an Italian dish, but pizza in Italy is often very different from pizza in America. And the international chain restaurants such as Dominos and Pizza Hut sell a very American (and very bland) version of the dish.

The Oven: Below is a photo of the pizza oven at this food stand. Whether you own a fancy restaurant or a food stand, if you have a fancy pizza oven, you want your customers to see it.

English for Foods and Cooking: Learn the English needed to talk about foods and cooking. This new book from Targets in English will explore the language around meats, vegetables, fruits, and common Western dishes. English for Foods and Cooking, which will include conversation, vocabulary, grammar, idioms, slang, and delicious photos, will be released this fall.
